Experiences of Asian American Women Adoptees.

Adoptees Amplified is about empowering Asian American women adoptees and educating non-adoptees, through telling our stories and learning from one another.

Adoption is not something many people talk about or know much about, and this project aims to shed light on the topic. Being a Korean adoptee myself, I’ve come to both realize my unique story and appreciate my experiences. I, along with six other adoptees, share our stories in Adoptees Amplified –a carefully designed zine that features articles, stories and illustrations.

The Adoptees Amplified Zine can also be accessed through this link:

The Adoptees Amplified logo is based on an ampersand, signifying ‘and’. This mark represents the place where cultures and families come together –a central theme to this project and many adoptees’ experiences/stories.

The vibrant colors of the zine are meant to be bold and empowering to reflect the content, rather than utilizing more muted colors and setting a sad, sympathetic tone. Organic shapes interact with one another in overlapping arrangements, again representing the concept of ‘overlap’.

Stickers were created as a final deliverable, meant to be given to other members of the adoptee community. Although simple, these stickers can help adoptees feel like they are part of a larger group of people who have both similar and contrasting experiences to them.

The Adoptees Amplified mark was made into a holographic sticker, and the Adoptees Amplified word mark was made into a round sticker, with type treatment and organic shapes interacting in the background.
